"The only place that felt remotely like a home was when I was over at the guys' house. It was really nice to see how they all took care of her in their different ways. They always made sure to let her know that they were there for her, and they refused to let her spiral on her own. ![]() There were ups and downs with their relationships (arguments really, nothing too crazy), but the guys never walked away. She wasn't afraid to stand up to the guys if she thought they weren't handing something correctly regarding their relationships. She even got more confident and stronger in this book. We got to see her relationship with all the brothers evolve. And wow, I can't wait to see how the story progresses. She even made some more enemies in this book, unfortunately, and we got to see more of her Uncle Logan which led to the cliffhanger. I'm glad we got to see more of her flashbacks with Mr. ![]() It was so sad to see how hard her grief hit her, but she was able to overcome it. In this book, we got to see her grief and how she was handling it, and the guys were there for her every step of the way. Poor Shiloh went through it this book (most mentally), and I'm worried for when it gets worse. I'm scared to keep going because I don't want to finish it so soon. This series keeps getting better and better. ![]() 5/31/2023 0 Comments To walk the night william sloane![]() ![]() Most writers only manage one of these, however masterful their output: Cornell Woolrich’s Night Has 1000 Eyes (written as George Hopley), Shirley Jackson’s The Haunting of Hill House, Thomas Tryon’s The Other, Gordon Williams’ Neither the Sand Nor the Sea, Fritz Leiber’s Conjure Wife, Jack Williamson’s Darker Than You Think, and William Lindsey Gresham’s Nightmare Alley are a few examples of the form. The scream or the sudden start is less part of their impact, than the frisson, that deep chill that rises from the soul and is often described as feeling as if someone has walked over your grave. There are books that are not only genuinely scary, but more importantly genuinely disturbing. ![]() 5/31/2023 0 Comments Malm fossil capital![]() ![]() But fossil fuels are just one of the drivers of climate breakdown, albeit the largest, and climate breakdown is just one aspect of Earth systems breakdown. Malm reduces our task to “the struggle against fossil fuels”. To prevent the destruction of the habitable planet, every aspect of our economic lives has to change. ![]() Either there was a poll tax or there wasn’t.īut the revolt against environmental collapse is a revolt against the entire system. Either women would get the vote or they wouldn’t. Either the British Raj persisted or it didn’t. Their outcomes were, in most cases, binary. These movements directly confronted massive powers. Malm’s strongest comparisons are with the heroic struggles of women’s rights and civil rights activists, anti-slavery, independence, anti-apartheid and economic justice campaigners. Should we, as he urges, begin a campaign of violent attacks on the industrial economy? While his case is compelling, I feel something is missing. Nor can we deny that, as he says, we have been too “placid and composed” or that the climate crisis is insufficiently politicised. No one can deny that current campaigns have failed: capital’s assaults on the living planet have only accelerated. Malm forces us to confront questions of strategy and to justify or reject those we have chosen. It’s essential that we know these histories. Just Stop Oil protesters in London in October. ![]() |
